Development

  • Baby has established sleep-wake cycles — often opposite to yours.
  • The central nervous system and lungs are nearly fully mature.
  • Baby is putting on about half a pound per week now.
  • Vernix coating is thickening in preparation for birth.
  • Baby's skull remains soft and flexible — ready to navigate the birth canal.

How you might feel

  • Pelvic pressure may intensify as baby drops.
  • Shortness of breath may ease if baby engages lower.
  • Increased need to urinate.
  • Fatigue is intense — your body is almost at full term.

Things to do this week

  • Know your Group B Strep (GBS) test results — typically done weeks 35–37
  • Write down your care team's after-hours contact information
  • Confirm birth support team — who will be in the room
  • Rest as much as possible — sleep debt accumulates quickly post-birth
