Week 6

First Trimester

The Heartbeat

Baby's heart is now beating — often visible on an early ultrasound. This is one of the first magical milestones.

This week's tip

💡 Sipping cold water slowly throughout the day can help manage nausea better than large drinks — keep a water bottle nearby and sip steadily.

  • Saliva production may increase (ptyalism).
  • Heartburn and indigestion can begin.

Things to do this week

  • Confirm your first prenatal appointment
  • Research OB or midwife practices if you haven't chosen one
  • Stay hydrated — even small sips count if nausea is bad
  • Consider ginger supplements or vitamin B6 for nausea relief (check with your care team first)

When to contact your care team

This is general guidance, not medical advice.

  • Contact your care team if you cannot keep liquids down for more than 24 hours.
  • Contact your care team if you experience heavy bleeding.

Partner tip
