Week 3

First Trimester

A New Life Takes Hold

Fertilization has occurred and your embryo is traveling to the uterus. Life at its most extraordinary and tiny is underway.

This week's tip

💡 Rest as much as you can this week — your body is doing invisible but extraordinary work, and fatigue at this stage is a sign of healthy change.

Development

  • The fertilized egg (now a blastocyst) is traveling down the fallopian tube.
  • The blastocyst is dividing rapidly into hundreds of cells.
  • Implantation into the uterine wall will happen around days 6–12 post-fertilization.
  • The cells are already organizing into what will become the baby and the placenta.

How you might feel

  • No obvious symptoms yet — conception just happened.
  • Some women notice light implantation spotting (can be mistaken for a light period).
  • The uterine lining is thickening to support implantation.
  • hCG hormone production begins after implantation.

Things to do this week

  • Continue prenatal vitamins
  • Avoid X-rays, certain medications, and raw foods
  • Begin reducing alcohol if not already done — now is the time
  • Rest well — your body is working hard

When to contact your care team

This is general guidance, not medical advice.

  • Contact your care team if you experience heavy bleeding — it may not be implantation spotting.

Partner tip

Small gestures matter. Keeping the home calm and stress-free supports early pregnancy without requiring big changes yet.
