Week 11
First TrimesterFingers, Toes, and Reflexes
Baby is developing reflexes and fingernails are forming. The body is becoming more proportionate every day.
This week's tip
💡 Gentle movement like a 15-minute walk can lift your mood and ease some of the early fatigue — your body is built for gentle activity even now.

Development
- Fingernails and hair follicles are beginning to form.
- Baby's diaphragm is developing — hiccups may begin (though you won't feel them yet).
- Reflexes are developing — baby will respond to touch.
- The hands are more developed than the feet at this stage.
- External genitalia are beginning to form (sex not yet visible on ultrasound).
How you might feel
- Many women find nausea starting to lift slightly in the coming weeks.
- Skin changes may include darkening of the nipples and a faint line on the belly (linea nigra) beginning to appear.
- Your hair may feel thicker — hormones slow natural hair loss.
- You may have more energy than in previous weeks.
Things to do this week
- Schedule your NT (nuchal translucency) ultrasound if you haven't
- Continue all prenatal vitamins
- Start gentle stretching or prenatal yoga if you enjoy movement
- Begin discussing your birth plan philosophy with your partner
When to contact your care team
This is general guidance, not medical advice.
- Contact your care team if you notice swelling in your face or hands — uncommon at this stage but worth checking.
Partner tip
Plan something enjoyable together this week — a walk, a movie, a meal — something light and connecting.
